What is workflow and what is it for?

Workflow means what it looks like, workflow. It is about process automation, a process in which the documents, information, and tasks pass from employee to employee, following hierarchy and according to a preset conjunct of rules.

Theoretically, it’s possible to run business processes manually. Nowadays, though, most of the workflow is systematized in the context of information technology, known as IT systems.

What is workflow from the technological point of view, and how it improves the business processes?

What is a workflow technology? It refers to a set of tools that, when looked at from a macro ambient optic, are the bridge between production unions and the office of a determinant company.

Meanwhile, if we look at it from a micro ambient optic, it connects IT systems to the company’s culture, consequently connecting the staff to the business processes.

Workflow technology not only ensures communication and information exchange between different sectors involved in the same business process but also assures that all and every task is executed by the employee responsible for it.

What are the main benefits that come from workflow technology to the business processes?

It is much simpler than it looks. It just about to control activities systematically. In that way, we eliminate bottlenecks in the process, what inevitably generates costs reduction, gaining efficiency, what exponentially increases productivity.

Now that I know what is workflow, how I incorporate the technology to my company’s processes?

It is important to ask yourself: what is workflow for my business? Managers that are aligned with the current tendencies in management business know that comprehend what workflow is not enough. The idea must be analyzed from a much wider context that is the BPM, always thinking about the organization’s reality.

BPM – Business Process Management – is a management approach that, apart from process automation, makes it possible a detailed mapping of relevant information. With this map in hands, the manager can deeply analyze the processes in his company and elaborate a plan of action to implement effective improvements. A reliable BPM software will allow you to map, automate, model, execute, monitor and improve all the processes in your company. With that, cost reduction, productivity increase, and client’s satisfaction are just unavoidable to happen.
